Hello, everyone! It’s April here, and I wanted to share something special with you today. With her permission, I’ve been given the go-ahead to share a note I received from one of my amazing clients. Her story is a powerful testament to the strength and resilience we all have within us, especially during the most challenging times. Here’s what she shared with me:
A Client’s Note:
Dear April,
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the incredible impact your work has had on my life, especially now as I navigate through one of the most challenging seasons I’ve ever faced. My husband is currently battling cancer, and as his caregiver, I’ve found myself overwhelmed by the emotional and physical demands of this journey. It’s hard, there’s no other way to put it. But amidst the challenges, I’ve found solace and strength in the lessons I’ve learned from you.
Your book, Slaying the Onion, and your Self-Leadership Training have been my anchors. Recently, I watched your short video on the “Juice Box” analogy, and it resonated with me in a profound way. The idea that we are like juice boxes—that we can become crumpled and depleted if we don’t protect our energy—has been a game-changer for me.
I’ve been asking myself your central question daily: “What choice can I make, and action can I take, in this moment, to create the greatest net value?” This question has guided me through some tough moments, reminding me that I still have the power to make choices that benefit not only my husband and family but also myself.
One of the most significant choices I made recently was to arrange care for my husband so I could spend a weekend with my granddaughters. It wasn’t easy—I felt guilty for leaving his side—but I knew I needed to replenish my juice box. That time with them was so rejuvenating. I didn’t come back overflowing, but I did return replenished, with enough energy to continue my caregiving with a renewed sense of purpose.
You’ve emphasized the importance of taking care of our juice boxes, and I’ve realized just how vital these ideas are, especially now. Recognizing and appreciating small victories, finding joy in the everyday moments, and being conscious of what replenishes my energy have become essential practices for me. Your guidance on honoring these celebrations has truly made a difference.
I wanted to share this with you because your work has made such a difference in my life. I’m learning to protect my juice box, to make choices that honor my energy and spirit, and to show up as the best version of myself, even during difficult times. Thank you for everything you do.
Warmly, Lisa Grace
Lisa’s story is a beautiful reminder of the impact small, intentional choices can have in transforming even the toughest seasons of our lives. Let’s all take a moment to reflect on our own juice boxes today: What can you do to refill yours? Whether it’s a small act of self-care, reaching out for support, or simply pausing to breathe, every action counts.
Thank you for letting me share this heartfelt message. Here’s to protecting our energy, finding joy in the journey, and continuing to grow together.
